Ever since the last movie outing to watch Titanic together many years back, my family of 4 managed to find time today to watch a movie together. It was my mum's strong recommendation of a Li Lian Jie's supposedly last movie that he will act in. It's called Huo Yuan Jia. With no expectations of any sort, I leave the movie theatre with much satisfaction and inspiration. I find it a meaningful show which teaches and educates the essence of mercy and kindness, the real purpose and beauty of chinese martial arts. I also wish I had been more interested in the rich ancient history of the Chinese in my past years of education as that certainly would help me to appreciate this movie even more.
My sister used to nonsensically say that if she has a child she wanna raise him till 10 yrs old and kill him after that cos children are only cute when they are young. Once they grow up, have their own set of thinking and no longer want to listen to you, they becum devillish and no longer cute in personality or looks. Today at reunion dinner, I saw how my teenage cousin speaks and argue in defence of her religion against her father and other relative who are very much against it. She is really an angry young lady who can be seen prepared to talk back at anyone who attempt to want to talk sense into her. Partly because of this, she has not been talking to her father for the past 3 yrs or so and both have been seen to be at loggerheads till now. I was browsing some photo albums and saw the photographs of my cousin back then when she was still young and little. And the many happy photos of her taken with her father (which is my uncle). I can't help but feel sorry for my uncle. I don't think he will feel good looking at those photographs when the reality now isn't predictive of the past. My mother always cautions that once the parent does not show the effort in wanting to pull back the child by his side, he might suffer the risk of losing her forever, emotionally and physically.
I can attest for her belief in saying that as I can recall how my parents have been re-accepting my sister after each and every upheaval that has no doubt placed alot of emotional stress on them. Despite all the previous episodes of discontent, my parents have showed tolerance and magnanimity towards some of her previous rebellious actions and decisions. For some of you who may not have all nice and good parents to speak of, I probably can make use of what Huo Yuan Jia said in the movie, that is, life may be unfair for he cannot choose how he starts off with his life, but he certainly has the power in how he wants to live and end it. We can't choose our parents that is no doubt. If yours aren't the ideal one that you would like to have, rem that they are not born to know how to be good parents as well. Perhaps they are still learning how to be one, through mistakes and experiences, though at the expense of your happiness. Give them the forgiveness that they deserve as afterall they are the ones who brought you into this world of heaven and most probably in times of dire needs, they will be the ones whom I forsee will not discard you for watsoever reason. If that is not possible, why not just forget the hatred altogether and lead a life better than what it should have been in the first place? At least you will be doing justice for yourself and having compensated for the unfairness in not getting to choose your own parents at the very start.
Anyway Happy Lunar New Year to all! It's the time for the hardly meet family members to get together again despite how dreadful it can get also! But for the sake of the angpaos...why dread? hehaz.....
